  • A 34-year-old Middletown man died Monday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle Sunday near Townsend.
Delaware State Police said the crash occurred at approximately 11:32 p.m. as Allen Turpin, 24, of Dover, drove south in the left lane of DuPont Parkway in the area of Anchor Inn Road. Police said Turpin’s 2014 Civic struck Jeremy Reed, of Middletown, who was crossing the southbound lanes from the median.
Reed was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition, but eventually succumbed to his injuries. Turpin, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, suffered a minor injury.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this crash. No charges are expected to be filed. The southbound lanes of DuPont Parkway were closed for approximately two hours as troopers investigated and cleared the crash.
Troopers remind pedestrians to use caution when walking on or near roadways. If you must cross a roadway, utilize appropriate crosswalks and make sure to look left, then right, then left again before proceeding. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians who are walking at night must carry a flashlight for added safety.
