The incident took place at 1:19 a.m. April 18 at the Capitol Inn, 1426 N. Dupont Highway, according to documents released by Justice of the Peace Court 7, Dover.
Responding to a call from the motel, two officers spotted the suspect, identified as Amir D. Elmore, 20, of the 100 block of South New Street, outside a room on the second floor. A search of the motel room turned up a sawed-off shotgun and two shotgun shells.
Elmore was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person prohibited, strangulation, possession a destructive weapon, third-degree assault, two charges of endangering the welfare of a child, criminal trespass, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with emergency communications and criminal mischief.
