One man was killed and three people injured in a roll-over accident near Dover.
A one-car accident Wednesday night near Dover has claimed the life of a Townsend man.
The man, identified as Brandon N. Maugle, 20, was thrown from the vehicle as it overturned, said Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier. He was pronounced dead after being taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.
The accident took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. April 16 as the vehicle, a 1999 Dodge Neon, was being driven along Delaware Route 9, south of Little Creek Road. The vehicle appeared to have been traveling at a high rate of speed when the operator, identified as Zachary R. Bowman, 20, of Odessa, lost control while negotiating a right curve, Fournier said. The car slid counterclockwise, left the roadway and hit a ditch, causing it to flip over several times.
All four occupants, none of who were wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the car, Fournier said.
Bowman and a passenger, identified as Reese W. Carpenter, 24, of Millington, Md., were admitted to Kent General Hospital in serious condition.
A fourth passenger, identified as Lacey Pfahler, 19, of Newark, was flown to Christiana Medical Center, where she also is listed in serious condition.
The division’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation into this incident, Fournier said.
Alcohol and speed are considered contributing factors in this case, he added.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
