  • Milford Police have preferred charges against a Dover man in connection with a series of tire slashings in their area.
Morris L. Simms III, 42, was arrested by Dover Police and turned over to Milford authorities, said Milford Police Department spokesman Det. Dwight Young.
Young said Simms would walk through the parking lots at Ruby Tuesday, Wal-Mart, Burger King, Dollar Tree and the Milford Diner and slash the tires of unoccupied vehicles.
He sometimes would wait for the owners to return and offer to help in exchange for a fee, Young said.
Simms allegedly slashed tires on vehicles belonging to at least 12 victims between March 20 and April 7.
Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman said Morris was arrested April 15 after allegedly puncturing a tire on a vehicle in the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant in North Dover. He was charged with a single count of criminal mischief, then turned over to Milford authorities, who already had issued a notice identifying him as a suspect in their jurisdiction.
Milford Police charged Simms with 12 counts of criminal mischief under $1,000 and seven counts of theft by false pretense. He was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $1,300 secured bond.
