Monday afternoon, DSU’s Vanessa Ciocatto (8-5) was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week, along with Savannah State’s Amanda McDowell (12-5), for the first time in her career.

Making three appearances including two starts, the freshman out of La Habra, Calif. went 1-1 with a 0.49 ERA and six strikeouts, in addition to eight hits, one earned run and three walks surrendered. 

Ciocatto’s best outing was against Coppin State in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, Ciocatto surrendered just one hit while striking out four in DSU’s 9-0 win.

For the season she holds a 2.36 ERA and sits first on the team in appearances (25), starts (18), complete games (4), shutouts (3), innings pitched (98.0) and strikeouts (46).

Ciocatto and the rest of the Hornets (22-12, 7-1 MEAC) will face Maryland on the road this Wednesday (no time has been set due to possibly rain showers).
