It has been a seesaw year for the Dover girls’ lacrosse squad, trading wins and losses to start the season. However, the Lady Senators broke a two-game losing streak on Saturday morning, defeating St. Thomas More 13-4 handing the Lady Ravens their fourth loss in a row to start the season.


After starting the season at 2-1 Dover fell in two tough contests in a row to Ursuline Academy and Cape Henlopen entering Saturday morning’s contest.


Needing a spark early, the Lady Senators got it in the form of a relentless offensive attack that struck early and often on Saturday.


Molly McCommons led the way for the Lady Senators finishing with four goals on the day, meanwhile Katrina Furber and Alex Crisco scored two goals apiece while Ave Burleigh, Paige Casto and Taylor Ryan found the back of the net as well.


The St. Thomas More offense was paced by the duo of Joanna and Lexie Petrosky who combined for four goals on the day scoring two apiece in the loss.


Both offenses were aggressive early on as both sides saw quality scoring chances to start the game. The Senators broke out to an early lead thanks to goals from Ryan, Crisco, and McCommons to take the lead into the half.


While the second half was highly competitive, the Lady Senators used their well-rounded offensive attack to overtake the Ravens and pull away for good.


Both offenses came to play on Saturday and it showed in the shot totals as Dover out-shot St. Thomas More 32-21 on Saturday.  The Ravens offense was bested by a strong day between the pipes from Kelly Conaway who made 14 saves for the Lady Senators in the victory. Meanwhile, St. Thomas More’s Maddie Rogers turned away 19 Dover shots to help keep the Lady Ravens in the game.


The Lady Ravens hope to break their season-long losing streak when they travel to take on Red Lion on Thursday starting at 4:00 p.m.


The Lady Senators now hope to string a few wins in a row together after breaking their two-game losing streak when they host Appoquinimink on Monday starting at 5:30 p.m.
