Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce president Judy Diogo was given the spirit award for her efforts to further economic development in Kent County. John Coates, president of Handy Tube accepted the trendsetter award on behalf of his company. Handy tube was awarded by the Kent Economic Partnership for their efforts to expand their Camden area facility. Chuck Nunan, owner of Harvest Ridge Winery was awarded the trailblazer award, celebrating the opening of his new winery in 2013. Honoring local businesses is important, said Jim Waddington, director of the Kent Economic Partnership.
“I think it’s appropriate to support the businesses we have in the economic development arena,” Waddington said. “People tend to think about trying to attract new business, but frankly the two most important elements of economic development are retaining businesses you have and expanding those businesses.”
