Polytech's strong second half leads the Lady Panthers to a 15-10 victory over Middletown in girls high school lacrosse..
After a slow and defensive-minded first half, the Polytech Lady Panthers exploded for ten second-half goals to defeat Middletown 15-10 Thursday afternoon in girls’ lacrosse.
The Panthers are now 2-0 on the young season, while Middletown has a 1-2 record in the early going.
The two teams basically played strong defense in the first half, and essentially traded goals in the early going. Polytech did manage to pull ahead and take a slim 5-3 advantage into halftime.
The second half was more wide-open, as the teams were determined to put goals on the scoreboard. Overall, Polytech outshot Middletown 27-20 for the game, and outscored the Lady Cavs 10-7 in the high-scoring second stanza.
Sophomore Jamie Trabaudo scored seven times for the Panthers, while senior Kristin Wissler supplied four goals and sophomore Kathryn Richardson added two more. Middletown’s senior Christina Gotthold scored five times, while junior Emily Pantazes had four goals and junior Alison Pantazes had one goal.
Middletown’s Megan Hainsworth and Polytech’s Lauren Lee both recorded ten saves apiece during the game. The Cavaliers next game is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Christiana at 3:30 p.m.
Polytech will host Appoquinimink Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
