Holy Cross School’s newly formed chess team competed in the Knights of Columbus’ 11th Annual Catholic Youth Chess Tournament on March 22, with outstanding performances all the way around.
Coming in just behind St. John the Beloved, The Holy Cross team, which consisted of 17 members, placed second in each of the three grade divisions.
“Although St. John the Beloved brought over 37 players, they barely squeaked by Holy Cross’ chess team by only one to two points in all grade divisions. This has the making of the next great upstate/downstate rivalry in Delaware sports,” said coach Ron Poliquin.
The Holy Cross team was coached by Poliquin, Bob Rheznesky, Joe Stanley and Steve Holfeld.
