  • Magnolia man facing fifth DUI charge

  • A trooper with the Delaware State Police arrested a Magnolia man, charging him with a fifth DUI.

  • Delaware State Police troopers have arrested a Magnolia man, identified as Howard C. Hampton, 52, on a fifth charge of driving under the influence.
    According to documents released by Justice of the Peace Court 7, Dover, a trooper stopped Hampton’s car at 1:45 a.m. March 6 on Millchop Lane, Magnolia. The trooper said he observed Hampton’s vehicle being driven erratically, and when stopped Hampton exhibited slurred speech and the odor of alcohol.
    A computer check also revealed Hampton’s driver’s license had been revoked because of DUI convictions in 1994, 1997, 2002 and 2010.
    Hampton was charged with a fifth offense DUI, driving on a suspended or revoked license, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and making an improper turn.
    He later was released from custody on a $7,002 unsecured bond.
