  • Three people were sent to the hospital following a crash between a car and a school bus the morning of March 7.
The accident occurred at 8:49 a.m. at the intersection of Clara Street and North Governors Avenue, said Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.
There were no children on the bus, Hoffman said.
An initial police investigation showed the bus, which was stopped at the intersection, began moving as the other vehicle, a Chrysler Cirrus, went through. The bus hit the driver’s side of the car, causing the driver to lose control; the car went off the west side of the road, hit a mailbox and came to rest next to the front porch of a home in the 300 block of North Governors Avenue.
The bus driver was not injured, but the driver of the Cirrus was extracted from the car with the assistance of the Dover Fire Department. The driver and front and rear passengers all were taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital for observation of neck and back pain. The driver also suffered a possible leg injury.
Dover Police cited the bus driver for failure to remain stopped at a stop sign.
Traffic was detoured around the area for approximately 45 minutes as police conducted their investigation, Hoffman said.
