Jazz virtuoso Don Byron will visit the Schwartz Center for the Arts on Saturday with his eclectic sound, accompanied by his bandmates the New Gospel Quintet. Byron and the New Gospel Quintet released their soulful debut album, “Love, Peace and Soul,” in 2011. On the record, the multi-instrumentalist Byron and the New Gospel Quintet pay homage to the gospel icons Thomas A. Dorsey and Rosetta Tharp with inspired interpretation of their compositions.
As a clarinetist, saxophonist, composer and arranger, Byron redefines every genre of music he plays, be it classical, salsa, hip-hop, funk, rhythm & blues, klezmer or any jazz style from swing and bop to cutting-edge improvisation. He’s been consistently voted best clarinetist by critics and readers alike in leading international music journals. Byron has also released a multitude of projects at major music festivals around the world.

Featuring musicians draped in gypsy attire, Wine &Alchemy performs world music on a list of exotic instruments. These tools include the hurdy gurdy, Turkish saz or Greek bouzouki, harmonium, viola da gamba and tupan. The band’s music draws influence from a wide variety of times and cultures such as Greek, gypsy, Celtic, medieval European, French, Turkish and classic rock. Band frontwoman Roxanne Bruscha adds to the group’s live shows with her world-fusion belly dancing, which features veil spinning and sword balancing. You can catch Wine and Alchemy in action this Saturday at the Cooldog Concert Series in Kenton on Saturday.

The Irish Society of Delmarva will launch its annual St. Patrick’s Day Party tonight at the Dover Elks Lodge No. 1903. The celebration will feature light fare and refreshments with music provided by the Sean Fleming Band. The outfit is led by talented frontman Sean Fleming, who has shared the spotlight with musical acts such as The Beach Boys, David Soul, Della Reese, Fleming has performed multiple times on “The Merv Griffin Show,” after initially being chosen from the audience to perform on the program. Fleming started out playing traditional Irish music in Irish dance halls and made his way up to performing at renowned venues like Carnegie Hall.
