  • Despite the dominance of upstate schools in Saturday's DIAA swimming championships at the University of Delaware, a few local swimmers made big splashes in their respective events.
In the boys meet, Dover's Dillon Marier took second place in the 50-yard freestyle, one spot ahead of Caesar Rodney's Aaron Green. Green also took third in the 100-yard freestyle later in the meet.
The Senators also finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, which Marier anchored behind Devin Hagaman, Anthony Lang and Cedric Barnes.
In the girls meet, Brianna Solomon took fifth place in the 100-yard freestyle and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke. She also anchored Dover's fifth place 200-yard freestyle relay team, swimming after Paige Casto, Connor Reader and Jada Bogle.
Dover's girls team finished 12th in the state, while the boys finished 13th. Caesar Rodney finished 14th on the boys' side.
Salesianum won the boys' team title - their ninth in a row and 24th in the last 27th years - by edging Charter School of Wilmington by nine points. Charter dominated on the girls' side, winning for the seventh consecutive year.
