  • The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Kent County and surrounding areas from Sunday evening to Monday night.
Rain should develop late on Sunday afternoon. The rain will mix with sleet and snow before changing to all snow late on Sunday night. The snow will become moderate to heavy at times and is expected to continue on into Monday before ending late in the day.
Winds will be from the north increasing to 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
Temperatures will be falling from the upper 40s and lower 50s on Sunday afternoon to the lower and middle 20s for late Sunday night into Monday.
Snow and sleet will create hazardous driving conditions and Monday morning’s commute will be particularly difficult. Snow accumulations are expected to be between seven and 11 inches.
Following the storm, near record cold is possible late Monday night as temperatures drop to between five and 15 degrees above zero.
