    Facebook is placing a $19 billion bet on reaching its next billion mobile users with the acquisition of WhatsApp, a popular messaging service that lets people send texts, photos and videos on their smartphones.

    The U.S. women's hockey team lost in a stunner to Canada in the gold medal game. The U.S. was up 2-0 with a little more than three minutes left in the game when Canada scored two goals in regulation, and added the winning goal in overtime.
