Smyrna boys win, Smyrna girls lose on day two of the Capital Classic Basketball Tournament

The Smyrna Middle School girls' basketball team was defeated Wednesday evening 37-27, by a fast and strong team from Seaford Middle School on Day Two of the Capital Classic held at Central Middle School in Dover.

The Lady Eagles kept the game close throughout the first half, but couldn't keep up with the fast pace of the talented and physical Lady Blue Jays. Naomi Bowser scored 17 points for Smyrna before fouling out late the game. Seaford's Tamara Evans led all scorers with 19 points on the cold and snowy evening.

In the fourth and final game of the evening, the Smyrna Middle School boys' team defeated Prestige Academy by the score of 37-24. The Eagles took an early lead in the game, then played a smart and solid basketball game over the final three quarters.Smyrna's Alvin West led all scorers with 11 points, and Deshaun Cain led the Prestige with six points in the fast-paced contest.

Due to the regional snowfall, Thursday's and Friday's games have been postponed.The Capital Classic Tournament will resume on Saturday afternoon and continue through Monday night, weather permitting.All schools are guaranteed two games.
