  • Detectives with the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious crash that occurred Feb. 11 east of Dover.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. Tuesday night as Robert A. Short Jr. was operating a 1995 Ford Taurus northbound on Bayside Drive (State Route 9), just north of Squawigm Road, said division spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Short, 27, of Dover, failed to negotiate a right curve and traveled off the west side of the roadway where his vehicle became airborne and rolled over before striking a tree.
Short, who was not properly restrained, was ejected from the vehicle. He was initially taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital and later airlifted to Christiana Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
Alcohol, marijuana, and speed may be contributing factors in this case, Fournier said. Route 9 was closed for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
