It’s been an up-and-down season for the Dover Senators’ swim team so far this year. Both the boys and girls struggled as a team out of the gates after starting out the season at 1-3. Recently, both have seen some improvement, and with half the season nearly over it couldn’t come at a better time.

On Thursday, January 16 the Senators split a meet with Henlopen Conference foe, the Milford Bucs. The boys took care of business winning 106-60 for their second consecutive win of the season to even up their record at 3-3. Meanwhile, the girls fell in a close battle to the Bucs, 95-78 to fall to 2-4 on the year.

After a matchup with St. Thomas More after our press time on Tuesday, January 21, the Senators will take on another conference opponent, Lake Forest on Thursday, January 23.

For the boys, Dillion Marier, Anthony Lang, Chris Valenti, Cedric Barnes and Devin Hagaman have begun to hit their stride in recent weeks. After two impressive meets in a row, they’ll look to make it three wins in a row Thursday against a 2-2 Spartans team with plenty of talent. Michael Morris, Lucas Schurman, James White, Bryan White, and Jang Yi have all been tremendous so far this season for Lake Forest recently leading them to a 78-77 victory over the same Milford team Dover faced last week.

On the girls side of things, Paige Casto, Karen Whitney, Connor Reader and Brianna Solomon have been just a few of the standouts so far this season. While the results haven’t come in the win/loss department, there has been steady improvement each week.  Even though they came up short against Milford, the Bucs boast a deep team with some possible state final participants.

They’ll take on a struggling Lake Forest squad who has dropped three of their first four meets of the year. The Spartans will enter Thursday’s meet having lost two in a row to Cape Henlopen and Milford. However, Lake Forest has seen some success from the Bundschuh’s, Holly, Paige, and Erica, as well as Samantha Kontz, and Kayla Mason.  The Spartans boast an impressive relay team that should match up well against Dover that has also performed well in both relays.

The two teams will meet Thursday, January 23 at Lake Forest high school starting at 3:30 p.m.
