  • The EDiS company of Wilmington has been announced as the choice of Levy Court commissioners to manage construction work on the upcoming Kent County Recreation Center.
The unanimous vote was held during Levy Court’s Tuesday business meeting.
EDiS was one of eight companies to respond to the county’s November request for bids on the construction management contract, although only seven actually submitted bids.
In addition to EDiS, the other firms were Lighthouse Construction of Milford, Nason Construction of Wilmington, R.Y. Johnson & Sons of Lincoln, Whiting-Turner of Newark, Bancroft of Wilmington, and J.C. Schafer of Abingdon, Md.
A team interviewed representatives from EDiS, Whiting-Turner, Nason and R.Y. Johnson in December, with EDiS receiving the top score.
In approving the selection, commissioners authorized County Administrator Michael Petit de Mange to negotiate the actual contract.
The recreation center will be built in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of Delaware on county land on New Burton Road, between Wyoming and Dover.
Commissioners have received regular updates on plans for the center as well as materials proposed for construction, but have delayed any decisions until a construction manager is hired, deciding to rely on that company to advise on how to build the center as economically as possible.
The Becker Morgan Group of Dover has been in charge of developing architectural and engineering plans for the building.
