Delaware State Police detectives are investigating a robbery attempt where a knife-wielding man tried to hold up an 8-year-old boy.
The incident took place at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 8, near the intersection of Scotch Pine and Loblolly Pine drives in the Pinewood Acres mobile home park, said police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
The boy was walking from a friend's home when he was accosted by the man, who threatened to stab him if he did not turn over his money. The boy turned and ran when the suspect lunged at him, and was able to make it safely home without being injured, Fournier said.
The man was seen getting into a white work van with tinted windows before he fled in an unknown direction.
The suspected was described as a black man between 30 and 40 years of age, standing between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 150-180 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket, black pants and a black ski mask.
