Caesar Rodney's wrestling team had two top-ten finishers in the prestigious Walsh-Ironman Tournament held last Friday and Saturday at the Walsh-Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, near Cleveland.
The Riders finished in 26th place compiling a total of 48.5 points in the 13th annual tournament,which featured many ofthe top high school wrestling teams throughout the country. Nearly three dozen teams participated in this year's event.
Rider senior Micah Hight, who was seeded fourth going into the tourney, finished in seventh place at 120 pounds. Senior Zack Parker earned 4th place in the heavyweight (285 lb.) division. He was seeded in the ninth position before the tournament began.
In addition to Hight and Parker, three other Riders gained valuable, national, wrestling experience including 15th seed, senior Brandon Scott at 126 lbs.; 16th seeded senior Tony Scarfo at 145 lbs.; and unseeded sophomore Michael Clavier , who competed in the 170 lb. division.
The Riders had the best finish of the Delaware schools. Smyrna finished in 31st place with 38 points as senior Brent Fleetwood earned a second place at 120 pounds.
