  • A Dover man is in prison following a police chase and crash involving a stolen car. The case began Dec. 14 with the apparent theft of the vehicle by a man identified as James T. Young Jr., of the 100 block of Trafalgar Drive, an acquaintance of the car’s owner, said Dover Police Department spokesman Lt. Jason Pires. At 1:20 p.m. that day, the owner said he saw Young driving the vehicle in the area west of Silver Lake and tried to stop him, but that Young hit him with the car and fled. Dover Police found Young in the vehicle on North Queen Street near Cecil Street and tried to stop him, but Young fled. Police gave chase, but the pursuit ended when Young failed to yield at the intersection of Lakewood Place and Walker Road and hit another car traveling through the intersection, Pires said. Both cars rolled over, injuring both Young and the occupants of the second car. Young was arrested by Dover Police after the collision and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and under the influence. Young and the two victims of the crash, a 63-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, were taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, where they were treated and released. Young, 37, has been charged with three counts of second-degree vehicular assault, criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangering, disregarding a police officer’s signal, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence and 16 additional traffic offenses. He is being held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, in default of an $8,650 secured bond.
