  • 6/3/1940 - 12/5/2013 Sonny, 73 years young at heart, was diagnosed w/lung cancer in May & died December 5th surrounded by great love at his daughter's home in Maryland. Sonny is survived by a loving family and many treasured friends who will be carrying his one-of-a kind spirit with them always. Friends were a GIFT he continually gave himself - whether it was the community maintenance man, or his brother from another mother, or the lifelong relationships he made as a young man in the U.S. Air Force: Sonny's passion was people. He had a tremendous giving spirit and a gift of hospitality, generosity, communication, and humor. Sonny owned Regal Painting and Wallcovering, Inc., a commercial contracting business in the Washington/DC/VA area. He loved his business and his associates loved him. Everyone Sonny did business with became his friend. While in business, he spent 10 incredible years boating each weekend with treasured friends & associates on the Chesapeake Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway on his Boat, "Lovin' Life", and then the "DONE DEAL". He retired to Camden, DE from Silver Spring, MD in 2006 & would often say, "there are no words to express how much I love retirement." He and his wife Ann adored each other and he loved cooking & entertaining, playing cards, eating out with the guys each week, or taking rides with friends. Some of his many senior activities were: boating, crabbing, dancing, 4-wheeling, zip lining, parasailing, riding a segway, snow tubing, traveled on his Goldwing Motorcycle, & taking cruise vacations. He treasured all the friends he met in the Motorcycle Ministry at his church and just loved greeting at the door on Sundays. Sonny is survived by his loving wife Ann and a Son, Daughter & 2 Stepdaughters and families - 11 Grandchildren in all from Maryland. Jeff Sheapp & April, Granddaughters Kaitlyn & Kylie; Tammy Lofink & Dennis, Grandchildren Robert & Leah; Stepdaughter Dotty McAllister & Ron: Grandchildren Ryan & Wife Amanda; Rory, Grace, Riley, & Reagan; Stepdaughter Kathy Angueira; Grandchildren Christian & Ashley. Sonny is also survived by Nieces Pam Durbin and Sherri Rice and their families. Sonny's mother Mamie (Peggy) Hensley (2nd cousin to Patsy Cline) died when he was a child, and in recent years he lost his Sister and Brother-in-Law, Curtis & Juanita (Nita) Ferguson. Memorial Service: Saturday, December 21st at 10:30a.m. Location: Calvary Assembly of God, 1141 Lebanon Road (Route 10), Dover, DE 19901, www.calvarydover.org 302-697-7776. In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts to his church or specifically to the Calvary Assembly of God Motorcycle Ministry would be a blessing.
