CAESAR RODNEY HIGH SCHOOL
2012 Record: 11-9
Key Returning Impact Players: Lexi Prillaman, Shakyra Cephas, Kasandra Lightburn, Whitney Victory, Katelin Hardy, Kyra Moore and Tiana Harris
Key Newcomers: Alissa Haith
Season Outlook: The Caesar Rodney girls basketball squad returns for a new season after posting an 11-9 record last season, capping it off with another trip to the DIAA state tournament. Lately, the Riders earning a playoff berth has been an afterthought. The Riders once again found themselves in the post-season last year winning a round against A.I. duPont before falling to Appoquinimink. This season, they hope a mix of returning players and contributing underclassmen can help them contend in the Henlopen Conference and earn another spot in the playoffs. With returnees like Lexi Prillaman, Kasandra Lightburn and Skakyra Cephas, the Riders have a solid core group of seniors leading the way. With contributors like Whitney Victory, Kyra Moore and Tiana Harris returning, the Riders hope to build a solid team from top to bottom. The Lady Riders open their season on Friday night when they travel to Smyrna to take on the Eagles at 7:15 p.m.
DOVER HIGH SCHOOL
2012 Record: 6-14
Key Returning Impact Players: Mary Adkins, Iyana Casey, Louella Cooper, Krystal Moore, Alexis Heath and Pashence Harris
Key Newcomers: Ja’Quela Dyer, Tia Harris, Mercedes Johnson and Tonisha Scott
Season Outlook: After making the playoffs a number of seasons in a row, the Dover Senators’ girls basketball squad found themselves on the outside looking in last season. The Senators finished a disappointing 6-14 last season, and enter 2013 hoping to get back to their winning ways. After losing some impact players last season, the Senators struggled with a team short on players and experience. However, as the season progressed, there was some improvement. Toward the end of the season, the Senators saw a more consistent effort on both ends of the floor. With the majority of that team returning, the hope is they can build off their improvements at the end of last season. The Senators have returning seniors Mary Adkins, Iyana Casey, Louella Cooper and Krystal Moore to provide some leadership, along with underclassmen like Ja’Quela Dyer, Pashence Harris, Alexis Heath, Tonisha Scott and Mercedes Johnson all looking to contribute this season. The Senators will being their turnaround season Saturday when they travel north to take on Ursuline Academy at 2:15 p.m.
POLYTECH HIGH SCHOOL
2012 Record: 10-10
Key Returning Impact Players: Sarah Hillman, Lonnica Jenkins-Hillard, Vanessa Hatton, Victoria Hanhauser, Sabrina Tilley, Kelly Winters
Page 2 of 3 - Key Newcomers: Tamia Mathias, Victoria Steele, Kyra Black and Cherise Castello
Season Outlook: The Polytech Panthers’ girls basketball squad saw some improvement last season, going 10-10 after an eight-win season a year earlier. While their 10-10 season wasn’t good enough to get them into the playoffs, they showed signs of what kind of team they could be in the future. The Panthers started off strong, winning four of their first five games. They also finished strong in 2012, winning three of their last four contests. However, in the middle was a six-game losing streak that all but cost them any shot at a playoff berth. The key for the Panthers, however, was that they were able to make the necessary adjustments as the season winded down, something they hope to carry with them in 2013. With returning seniors Victoria Hanhauser, Vanessa Hatton, Sarah Hillman and Lonnica Jenkins-Hillard, the Panthers seem to have a nice solid group of seniors leading the way this season. Three juniors, Kelly Winters, Sabrina Tilley, and Fatima Edwards hope to contribute along with some other underclassmen that are new to the team. Freshmen Tamia Mathias and Victoria Steele along with sophomores Kyra Black, Kathryn Kozel and Cherise Castello hope to add some much needed depth to the Panthers this season. A move from the Henlopen South to the Henlopen North division this season will also prove to be a big test for the Panthers. Polytech opens their season Friday night when they host Sussex Central at 6 p.m.
LAKE FOREST HIGH SCHOOL
2012 Record: 8-12
Key Returning Impact Players: Roshell Dalton, Kori Johnson, Quantesha Pitts, Nikkesha Scott, Daia Daniels, Shayna Gourdine and Gabrielle Cubbage
Key Newcomers: Arika Burrell and Nicole Scott
Season Outlook: The Lake Forest Spartans girls basketball squad enter the 2013 season coming off an 8-12 record last season. Last year, the Spartans had a fairly young squad that featured only three seniors. While they struggled at times, they were able to fight for a respectable 8-12 record last season. Now, a team that wasn’t so experienced last season returns in 2013 with many experienced players returning to the fold. Seniors Quantesha Pitts, Kori Johnson, Nikkesha Scott, Roshell Dalton and Gabrielle Cubbage should provide the leadership for the Spartans on and off the court this season. Returning underclassmen Daia Daniels, Shayna Gourdine and Ariel Ingram hope to add some depth to the Spartans this season, along with newcomers Arika Burrell, Nicole Scott and Erin Wix. The Spartans have also brought in a new head coach, Trenita Shields, to lead the way. With some experienced players returning, fresh faces and a new system, the Spartans hope to contend within the Henlopen South division and get back to competing within the state. The Lady Spartans begin their season Friday night when they travel to Milford to take on the Lady Bucs at 6:15 p.m.

SAINT THOMAS MORE ACADEMY
2012 Record: 4-16
Key Returning Impact Players: Alexis Petrosky, Alexa Schimp, Maria McGloin, Kelsey Huffman and Kourtnie Parag
Key Newcomers: Jasmine White, Sarah Pool, Sierra Hadik and Adrienne Dawson
Season Outlook: After a 4-16 season last year, the St. Thomas More girls basketball squad is hoping to see some improvement this season with some returning faces and new ones looking to contribute. Alexis Petrosky and Alexa Schimp are two impact players returning for the Ravens this season. Now seniors, Petrosky and Schimp look to take their games to the next level after some impressive performances over the past few seasons. Maria McGloin, Kelsey Huffman, Kourtnie Parag are all returning underclassmen who showed they’re all ready for increased roles this season. Newcomers Jasmine White, Sierra Hadik, Adrienne Dawson and freshman Sarah Pool all hope to provide some much needed depth on a small squad.
