Richard S. Hand, Sr., “Big Rich” of Little Creek, DE passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE. He was 60.
Mr. Hand was born October 27, 1953 in Dover, the son of the late Roy and Marian Hand.
He spent his lifetime as a Commercial Waterman on the Delaware Bay. His passion was running the dredge boat.
Big Rich was a Life Member and the current President of the Little Creek Fire Company, a position he held since 2000. He joined the department in 1969 and remained a prominent member.
When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed watching TV; especially the History Channel, and anything to do with WWII and Sci-Fi. He loved spending time with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Richie “Little Rich” and Tim “Frog”; his brother, Roy “Captain Roy” and his wife Sue; four grandchildren, Lauren “Lil girl”, Tripp “Lil Man”, Kaitlyn “Tater Bug”, and Alyssa “Bebe”; his 3 babies, Cookie, Hey Boy, and Rascal; his special nieces and nephews, Joe Masten “Lil Joe”, Karen Masten “Tinky”, Becky Satterfield “Goldilocks” and her husband Paul, Eric Hand “Ball Bearin” wife Jessica, and son Blake; His father-in-law, John Peer, Sr. “Pop”; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Sawyer “Dot”; two sister-in-laws, Jeannie Hastings and Candy Peer; and his brother-in-law, John Peer, Jr. and their families.
A viewing will be held on Friday December 6, 2013 at 1 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE. Funeral services will begin at 3 pm.
Burial will be private.
