  • Dover Police have arrested two men on drug and related charges following a short scuffle.
The arrests were made at approximately 11:01 a.m. Nov. 26, as officers contacted a group of people loitering in the area of 27 N. New St., said police spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.
Officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the individuals' clothing and attempted to detain them. One of the men, identified as James Parker, 27, allegedly began struggling with officers and pulled a loaded .32 Smith and Wesson revolver from his jacket and tried to throw it away during the scuffle.
Parker was subdued and later found in possession of 4.1 grams of marijuana and one 10 mg Oxycodone pill.
Another man, DaShaun Hughes, who was with Parker, was found in possession of 24 individual bags of marijuana, packaged for sale, with a total weight of 19 grams, Hoffman said.
Parker was charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance, loitering and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was ordered held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, in default of a $17,000 secured bond.
Hughes was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and loitering.
He was ordered held at the Vaughn Center after failing to pay a $4,750 secured bond.
