Jack Samuel Huber of Dover passed away Thursday November 21, 2013 at home. He was 80.
Jack was born March 11, 1933 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania and was the loving son of Ms. Hilda L. Huber.
He was an accomplished athlete in his younger years, where he excelled in many sports. Jack served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and would go on to work for the United States Civil Service, retiring after 35 years. Upon his retirement, Jack spent most of his time living for the things he enjoyed, including spending time with his family, having coffee with his friends at Spence’s Bazaar, or seeing a jazz concert at a local high school. One could always find Jack at a local sporting event, whether it be a Wesley College Football game, or a Little League opening day. He loved a good family meal, enjoyed taking photographs of nature’s wonders, and feeding the squirrels whom he felt ruled his back yard. He loved to travel when he had the chance, and enjoyed spending time with his special friend Sonia. Jack was an avid sports fan, who loved following the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles and Flyers. He had a wealth of baseball knowledge that was remarkable. Jack had a passion for Kentucky Wildcat Basketball, and was a longtime supporter of Caesar Rodney Athletics.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lee Huber, in 1996.
He is survived by a son, Michael T. Miles and his wife, Mary of Dover; and a granddaughter, Lauren to whom he will always be affectionately known as “Grandpa Jack”. Jack will be greatly missed by those who knew him and loved him, especially his lifelong friend Ronnie Koehler.
Funeral services will be held 4PM Saturday November 30, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be 10AM Monday, December 2, 2013 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware 19701.
