  • Jean Marie West, 88, of Dover, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Born April 2, 1925, at Warwick Manor near Secretary, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lloyd Colbourn and Mary Anna Era Colbourn. She was a 1943 graduate of East New Market High School and married Melvin S. West on April 28, 1945. She worked as a seamstress at the Gant Shirt Factory in both Salisbury and Seaford for twenty six years, retiring in 1987. She was a representative for Home Interiors in the 1980’s. She enjoyed dancing, working on genealogy, reading, assembling jigsaw puzzles, and writing for the Luther Towers paper where she lived for many years. She loved watching westerns and war movies and spending time with her grandchildren. Growing up in Secretary, she was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and while living in Seaford was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she was past president of the Sodality; and at the time of her death was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover. She is survived by a son, Ronald M. West and his wife June of Georgetown; a daughter-in-law, Nancy West of Harrington; four grandchildren; Sarah West of Georgetown, John West of Magnolia, Stephen West and his wife Lauren of Harrington and Leah West and her fiancée Brian Humphrey of New Castle; a great-grandson, Carson West. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Richard Gene West. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Rev. Stephen Lonek will be the celebrant. A private interment will take place at a later date at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. The Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market is handling the arrangements.
