  • Robert D. Masten, of Millsboro, DE passed away on November 15, 2013 with his family at his side at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 88 years old. He was born on July 8, 1925 to the late Eurie and Maude Calloway Masten in Laurel, DE. He was a Veteran of World War II and served in the US Army in Patton’s Third Armored Division, earning a Bronze Star. In 1946, he married his wife, Rose Dowdy in Milford, DE and worked as the branch manager of Pensupreme Ice Crème for more than 30 years. He is a member of Mary Mother of Peace & St. Michael’s Parish of the Roman Catholic Church. Formerly, he served as a commentator at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford, DE and was active in the Milford Kiwanis Club, serving as its President in 1962. He was a former member of American Legion Post 28. He loved deer hunting, fishing, and boating – owning his own boat, the “Skipper Rose.” In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children: Robert Masten, Jr., of Ft. Meyers, FL; William Masten, of Millsboro; Stephen Masten and his wife Patricia, of Milford; John Masten and his wife Vickie, of Bear, DE; and Carolyn Masten, of Ft. Meyers, FL. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Stephen Masten, Jr.; Jonathan Masten; and Kelly Shontz. There are two great-grandchildren: Kailyn Shontz and Corynne Shontz. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and associates including Lyn Morgan, Millsboro, DE and Villy Shank, Ft. Myers, FL – along with his beloved feline friend: “Kami-O.” A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, on, Nov. 21, 2013, at Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church, on Rt. 24 in Millsboro. Friends may call one hour prior, at the Church, for viewing and visitation. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice Center; 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
