  • Michael Alvin Foster died Friday, November 15, 2013 in Dover, Delaware at the age of 86. Michael was born October 2, 1927 in Flushing, New York, son of the late Louis and Madeline Finkelstein. He was a graduate of Flushing High School, following his service in the United States Navy. He began his career as a newspaper man serving many years at the New York Daily News as circulation manager throughout New York and New Jersey. A job with the Philadelphia Inquirer brought him to Dover, Delaware in 1967. In the early 70’s he after earning his real estate license he landed his dream job at Nate Cohen Realty, which he later became Foster Realty. He earned his real estate broker’s license which was active until 2011 upon his retirement. He was preceded in death by his sister Harriet Goldmintz, his beloved wife Norma Foster, and his son-in-law Ricky Dunning. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Janice and Eric Howlett of Magnolia, his daughter Lois Dunning of Dover, and his granddaughter Rachel Dunning of Dover. His favorite teams were the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Eagles. One of his fondest childhood memories was seeing Babe Ruth play at Yankees Stadium with his father. He was on the golf team in high school and was an active player well into his 60’s. He was especially proud of his record high score for bowling 287. Mike loved people and anyone who came into his home was promptly offered a sandwich, an iced tea, and grapes. He loved all creatures great and small including many family pets throughout his lifetime. Guests may call from 12-1:30PM with funeral services at 1:30PM at Torbert Funeral Home on 61 S. Bradford St. Dover, DE 19904 on Sunday, November 17, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael Foster’s name to Congregation Beth Sholom at 340 N. Queen St. Dover, DE 19904.
