  • Edward Conaway, 90 of Georgetown, DE and Leesburg, FL died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, November 17, 2013.

    Born in Georgetown, DE on November 19th, 1922 to the late Walter and Carthy Conaway, Eddie graduated from Georgetown High School in 1941 where he excelled in basketball going on to play for Father McCarthy in Wilmington, DE and in the Eastern Shore League.

  • Edward Conaway, 90 of Georgetown, DE and Leesburg, FL died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, November 17, 2013. Born in Georgetown, DE on November 19th, 1922 to the late Walter and Carthy Conaway, Eddie graduated from Georgetown High School in 1941 where he excelled in basketball going on to play for Father McCarthy in Wilmington, DE and in the Eastern Shore League. After marrying the love of his life Frances Truitt, they moved to Claymont where he worked in the Philadelphia Shipyard. Shorty after, Eddie enlisted in the US Marine Corps in May, 1943 serving and honorably discharged in April, 1946. Proud of his service in the Corps, he always said, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” After the service Eddie worked for the B & L Feed Company in the poultry business. Wanting to start his own business in 1958, he and lifetime friend Nutter “Bozie” Marvel Jr. started C & M Auto Supply, retiring in 1977, he and Frances headed for Florida, locating in Lessburg. An avid sports fan, following his favor teams the Celtics and Yankees and still excelling at basketball with different men’s leagues he and a number of business men in town were instrumental in starting the Georgetown Little League. In the past he was an active Mason in the Franklin Lodge, Lions Club and a proud member of the Republican Party. He was elected the County Sherriff in 1967-1968. Eddie was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Frances, in March 1997, his son F. Edward in 1979, and his son Stuart in 2010. His is survived by his 3 daughters, Carol Serman and husband Mike, Jane Brock and her fiancé’ and Eddie’s caregiver Chris Pittas, and Joan Riddle and husband Allen; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grand children, 2 great-great grandchildren and dear friend Kitty Griffith of Seaford, DE. Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 12 noon at the Parsell Funeral Home & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 North Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services. Friends may also call on Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Georgetown, DE. The family would like to thank Delaware Hospice for their special and loving care they showed our father and family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Eddie’s memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
