Two children, kidnapped Nov. 1 when an unknown man stole the SUV they were in, were returned to their family after the vehicle was found abandoned in Camden a short time later. The incident began at 7:40 a.m. when Dover Police received a call that a 1999 Ford Expedition had been stolen with the children inside, said police spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman. The vehicle had been parked outside the Duncan Center convenience store while a parent was inside, but the engine was left running, Hoffman said. The vehicle was taken a short time after the parent went into the store. Dover Police began an immediate check of the surrounding area, and found the vehicle on Willow Grove Road, near South State Street, Camden. The children were unharmed and immediately reunited with the parent. The suspect, who has not been captured, is described as a black man of average build who was wearing a blue jacket, white shirt, blue jeans and a camouflage-style ball cap. Video surveillance images of the suspect may be found at the Dover Police Department's website, http://www.cityofdover.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.policereports. (The above reported time of the incident is correct; the video obtained from the store site shows an incorrect date and time.)
