Detectives with the Delaware Child Predator Task Force have arrested a Dover Air Force Base airman following an investigation into the online distribution of child pornography.
The suspect was identified as Joel W. Thorpe, 37, of the unit block of Edgewood Road, Dover.
Thorpe is a U.S. Air Force technical sergeant, said 1st Lt. Remoshay Nelson, deputy chief of the base Public Affairs Office. Thorpe has been assigned at Dover since May 2010.
Members of the Task Force contacted Thorpe on base Oct. 28 and took him to Delaware State Police Troop 3 to conduct a further investigation, said Jason Miller, spokesman for state Attorney General Beau Biden.
Detectives also executed a search warrant at Thorpe's Edgewood Road home, seizing several computers and numerous digital storage devices. An initial examination of that evidence recovered multiple images of child pornography, Miller said.
Thorpe was charged with 25 counts of dealing in child pornography, and was ordered confined at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, in default of $375,000 cash bail.
The Child Predator Task Force is continuing its investigation, Miller said.
