  • Russell Kalbach has been crowned Delaware's First Homebrew Champion at the Fourth annual Delaware Wine and Beer Festival on Oct. 20.
Kalbach, of Upper Darby, Pa., won $500 worth of cash, prizes, and bragging rights. Semi-finalists' entries were judged by the American Home Brewers Association participating judges from the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) to select the Delaware Homebrew Champion.
Each of the five semi-finalist's entries was sampled and the judges discussed the style that was entered. Kalbach's entry, French Saison, was the highest vote-getter.
"Homebrewers invest their time, money and energy with one or more recipes," said Charles Gray, Homebrew Championship Coordinator for Kent County Tourism. "Some turn out good, and some turn out better left alone. With the right recipe and the right handling and timing, Mr. Kalbach brewed the winning Delaware Home Brew Championship beer."
