On Thursday afternoon, both the Polytech Panthers and Milford Bucs came together on the volleyball court to help support breast cancer awareness in the “Dig Pink for the Cure” game.

The Panthers were able to stay undefeated, beating the Bucs 3-0 in straight sets, though it wasn’t easy.

After a quick start by the Panthers, the Bucs responded to tighten things up in a first set that was eventually won by Polytech 25-16. The Panthers continued to put the pressure on in the second set, combating an early Milford run in the set to eventually take the set 25-14. The Bucs would try to hang tough in the third set but were ultimately dispatched by Polytech 25-16 to round out the straight-set sweep.

The Panthers have had deep contributions from their entire team so far this season, and Thursday afternoon’s contest was no different for the undefeated squad.

Jennifer Briody had a big day for the Panthers, finishing with five aces, three digs and 17 assists in the victory. Meanwhile, Kristin Wissler, Kelly Winters, Colleen O’Brien and Lauren Mullins finished with 19 kills, 13 aces, and 22 digs combined for the Panthers Thursday afternoon.

The Panthers are off to an impressive 10-0 start, leading the Henlopen North division by two games over the second-place Caesar Rodney Riders (9-2).  Out of their ten contests this season, the Panthers have dropped only four sets to opposing teams, two of which came against the 8-3 Smyrna Eagles.

Polytech is now one of only two teams in the entire state without a loss on their record, Padua also at 10-0 is the only other undefeated team left in the first state.

After a match up with Seaford (0-10) on Tuesday, the Panthers will meet the second-place Riders for the first time this season on Thursday afternoon at home, game-time 5:00 p.m.

The “Dig Pink for the Cure” match helped raise over $1,000.00 for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition by raffling off items, and selling breast cancer awareness pins, stickers, t-shirts and other merchandize at the event.
