DNREC is inviting Delaware residents to its next Scrap Tire Drop-off Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Delaware State Fairgrounds, 18500 S. Dupont Highway, Harrington.
Residents can bring up to 10 passenger car or light duty truck tires from their households for recycling. Larger tires cannot be accepted, nor can tires on rims or bicycle tires. As the event is limited to Delaware residents, proof of residency is required; a driver’s license or utility bill. Tires from commercial dealers will not be accepted.
The Delaware Scrap Tire Management Program is funded by a state fee of $2 for each new tire sold. Enacted Jan. 1, 2007, the fee is diverted to the Scrap Tire Management Fund, a matching fund and program created to clean up existing scrap tire piles statewide.
