The Caesar Rodney Riders’ field hockey squad defeated rival Dover on Thursday, shutting out the Senators 3-0.
Alex Prillaman led the way for the Riders, scoring all three goals in the victory.
Prillaman struck first at the 9:50 mark of the first period on a setup from sophomore Kourtney Olsen to give the Riders a 1-0 lead after one half of play.
In the second, Dover turned up the offensive pressure earning multiple penalty corners but were not able to capitalize.
Prillaman struck for her second goal at 12:10 to put the Riders up 2-0, before solidifying the victory with her third goal with just under three minutes remaining in the game.
The Riders out-shot the Senators 17-10; and more than doubled Dover in penalty corner opportunities, 11-4.
Both goalkeepers were sharp, Dover’s Mary Adkins made 14 saves in the losing effort, while junior Kyra Watson made 10 huge saves to earn the shutout for CR.
The Senators (4-4) are back in action on Tuesday when they take on Henlopen Conference foe the Smyrna Eagles (2-6).
With the victory, the Riders improve to 7-3 on the season and have five of their last seven games. CR returns to the field on Tuesday afternoon when they host Laurel (0-6-1).
