Bayhealth will be offering free osteoporosis screenings throughout the year in Dover, Milford, Middletown, and Smyrna beginning Oct. 7.
Osteoporosis is a progression of bone weakening that causes the bones to become “thin” and “spongy” which makes them more prone to breaking. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, an estimated 10 million people over the age of 50 in the U.S. have osteoporosis and another 34 million are at risk for the disease.
The next screenings will take place:
9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Bayhealth Education Department, 208 W. Water St., Dover.
1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Bayhealth Outpatient Center, 1020 Mattlind Way, Milford.
