  • Francis Paul Martin, (Frank) of Trappe, MD died peacefully on Wednesday, September 25th, 2013 at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge Maryland after a courageous year-long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Frank was born March 12, 1944 and raised in Newark, NJ where he met his wife of 41 years, JoAnn (formerly Reis) in 1963 at a summer school biology class. They resided in Edison, NJ for 41 years where they raised two daughters, Theresa and Danielle, both of whom Frank was extremely proud. Frank worked for NJ Bell/ Verizon as a splicing technician for 31 years before retiring in 2000 and relocating to Maryland to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an electrical power production specialist for the First Mobile Unit with a rank of Sergeant and was stationed in the Philippines and SE Asia during the Viet Nam war. Frank was a member of The American Legion Post 0408 and IBEW Local 827 union. He enjoyed fishing, boating and crabbing with his family and dock buddies for many years on the Raritan Bay and then subsequently in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. His other hobbies included camping, listening to big band music, and watching old black and white movies. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marion, his father, James and brother James Martin Jr. He is survived by his wife JoAnn, daughters Theresa Plog and husband Hunter, of St. Michaels, MD and Danielle Martin, of Dover, DE. Frank also leaves behind two grand daughters, Madelynne and Lillian who always made their Poppy smile, as well as a younger brother Albert and several nieces and nephews. Viewing and prayer services for Francis Martin will be held on Thursday, October 3rd from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Boylan Funeral Home on 10 Wooding Ave. in Edison, NJ. A waterfront memorial service is planned for Wednesday October 9th at 5:30pm on Landing Rd. in St. Michaels, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s honor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Maryland Chapter 100 Painters Mill Rd. Suite 800 Owings Mills, MD 21117.
