  • October's First Friday to kickoff this week

  • The local non-profit to benefit for this month's First Friday in downtown Dover is Cancer Support Community, an organization devoted to ensure all people impacted by cancer will be empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. Many of the businesseses participating in First Friday will remain open until 7 p.m., while some will stay open later.
    ON FEDERAL STREET
    The Biggs Museum of American Art will host its Delaware By Hand Sip and Shop event. Celebrate and support Delaware artists while drinking a tasty beverage.
    ON LOOCKERMAN STREET
    The Dover Public Library will host its In Harmony concert at 7 p.m., featuring pianist Susan Duer.
    Bel Boutique invites everyone to enjoy its "Power of Pink Party!" Special products and treats will reflect the theme of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
    Beehive Beauty Shop will do free pink tinsels.
    ON W. LOOCKERMAN STREET
    The Dover Art League will be sponsoring a booth on Loockerman Way Plaza with free fun crafts for kids, glow in the dark temporary tattoos, and portrait opportunities with interactive art displays created and donated by professional art instructor Joyce Lapp. In addition, the DAL will have a photographer on site.
    Dover Newsstand & Café will feature live music by alternative rock band.
    SudsBar Soap and Essentials invites you to see its newest and latest unique gifts for the upcoming holiday season. The shop will also feature some of its favorite top-selling artisan soaps.
    At Forney's, there's always something new to see for yourself and great hostess gifts, and this month is no different.
    Forney's Too will be hosting the talented folk singer-songwriter Rick Hudson. There will be refreshments and specials on select merchandise.
    Partners in Design will feature live music by classical guitarist Aaron Taylor. There will also be special pricings on fall and Halloween décor. Refreshments will be available, too.
    The Golden Fleece is having Tony Robinson perform at 5 p.m., followed by Stacks Entertainment at 10 p.m.
    Bayard Pharmacy will have free blood pressure and blood sugar checks, plus free refreshments from Frankfurt Bakery and Amici's Neighborhood Market.
    ON GOVERNORS AVENUE
    A&B Plus Consignment Shoppe - A & B plus is having a going-out-of-business sale. Everything must go.
    A Touch of Glass will feature artist Brian Bachman, a local welder/sculptor, who'll be on hand with examples of his work. Light refreshments will be served. Twenty percent-off all store items (excluding consignments).
    Beyond Dimensions will feature live music by singer-songwriter Greg Shupe. Have a glass of wine/soda and some nibbles while enjoying Shupe's political and humorous songs.
