A vehicle fire that also ignited a building in Dover has been determined accidental in nature.
A vehicle fire that also ignited a building in the 1600 block of DuPont Highway, near Lakeland Avenue, Dover, has been determined accidental in nature.
The fire was reported at approximately 1:15 p.m. Sept. 22, said Chief Deputy B. Scott Bullock.
Firefighters from the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company responded to the blaze, finding the vehicle on fire near the building and the building also on fire, Bullock said.
The blaze in the two-story building, which houses several businesses and a church, was placed under control at approximately 2:14 p.m.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire started in the vehicle’s engine compartment, Bullock said.
The building sustained moderate fire damage and smoke damage, with heavy fire damage to the vehicle. Damages are estimated at $200,000.
Assistance was requested from the Dover, Magnolia, Felton, and Hartly fire companies, Bullock said.
