A man identified as a suspect in an Aug. 12 fire that destroyed a former restaurant in Claymont was arrested Sept. 17 at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

Investigators from the Delaware State Fire Marshal's office arrested a man, identified as Shawn L. Gibson, 43, in connection with an arson fire in Claymont.

Gibson first was arrested Sept. 17 at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino on theft charges, said Chief Deputy Robert Fox. During processing by the Division of Gaming Enforcement, agents learned Gibson had several outstanding arrest warrants.

Gibson was wanted in connection with the Aug. 12 arson blaze that destroyed the former Bourbon Street Grille on Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. The restaurant and bar was vacant, having been closed in 2012.

Gibson was arraigned on charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree arson and third-degree burglary.

Fox said he was unable to address the reason for the attempted murder charge.

Gibson was jailed at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, in lieu of a $76,000 cash bail.

Fox asked that anyone with information about the fire to contact the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office New Castle Division at (302) 323-5375.
