  • Former Dover AFB commander to receive third star

  • A former commander of the 436th Airlift Wing at Dover AFB has been nominated for promotion to lieutenant general.

  • Maj. Gen. Samuel D. Cox, who commanded the 436th Airlift Wing at Dover Air Force Base from May 2005 to May 2007, has been nominated by President Barack Obama for promotion to the grade of lieutenant general.
    Cox, who held the grade of colonel while at Dover, spent part of his assignment deployed to Southwest Asia supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He later was named commandant of cadets at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., and was promoted to brigadier general.
    Cox, who graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1984, will be assigned to the Pentagon as Air Force deputy chief of staff for manpower, personnel and services.
