Earlier this week, Delaware's mighty Kalmar Nyckel sailed back to its homeport in Wilmington. And you know what this means? The vessel is available this entire weekend for sailing trips on the Christina River to kick off its fall season.
Families can journey on the Kalmar Nyckel and learn about the legacy of this restored ship and the original Nyckel. Both have a rich history.
Most recently, this restored version of the Nyckel hosted King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden and Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Eero Heinäluoma for a historic sail on the Christina River in Wilmington on May. This event was one of the highlights of the 375th anniversary of the arrival of the original Kalmar Nyckel and the establishment of the colony of New Sweden in 1638.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are loads of fun facts to learn about the Nyckel.
