  • The body of a 19-year-old Dover woman who had been missing since Aug. 31 was discovered in a wooded area in Leipsic Sept. 7. Police have arrested a 21-year-old Leipsic man in connection with her death.
Taylor M. Owens had been the subject of an active missing person's investigation since Sept. 4, after family members contacted Delaware State Police detectives due to her disappearance, said DSP spokesman Sgt. Paul G. Shavack.
Delaware State Police troopers were contacted at approximately 5:40 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, and were notified of the discovery of possible charred human remains located by area residents in a wooded area along the 200 block of Denny Street in Leipsic, Shavack said.
After further investigation and interviews, Shavack said detectives were able to connect Tony Mozick Jr., 21 of Leipsic, to the death of Owens, which police say occurred on Aug. 31 after a physical altercation in a residence the two shared in the 200 block of Denny Street.
According to Shavack, Mozick allegedly moved the body to the wooded area where he tried to dispose of the remains by burning.
Mozick was arrested Sunday morning, Sept. 8, and charged with first-degree murder and abusing a corpse. He was remanded to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center without bond, Shavack said.
The investigation of this incident is ongoing, Shavack said, and troopers are continuing to conduct interviews and gather evidence. Owens' remains were turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
