  • The Delaware State Police is hosting open houses for its Explorers program at various locations throughout the state.
The program consists of young men and women who have an interest in law enforcement. Those in the Explorers program fingerprint young children at community events, work the missing children’s area at the Delaware State Fair and participate in many more community events. The program also offers opportunities for participation in the National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference and the Federal Leadership Academies.
The program teaches participants a variety of police procedures including fingerprinting, evidence collection and patrol procedures.
“We strive to lead them down the right path and stand as positive role models,” states a DSP news release. “We also plan to instill leadership, responsibility, integrity and commitment.”
To be qualified for the program, participants must be mature, clean cut, clean shaven, hold a grade point average of 2.0 or above and must have no criminal convictions. This is not a discipline program. The age range is 14 to 20 years old and at least in ninth grade. College students are also welcome. Anyone under the age of 18 must bring a parent or legal guardian. All interested participants must bring to the open house a $40 program registration fee and a copy of last school year’s grades.
