Dover Police are investigating an attempted robbery in which the gunman failed to obtain any money and almost lost his gun in the process.
The incident took place at 11:46 p.m. Aug. 31 in the area of North New and Divisions streets, said police spokesman Lt. Norman Mailey.
The victim said he was getting out of his car when he was approached by another man who showed him a chrome-colored semi-automatic handgun. The suspect grabbed the victim's pockets, threatening to shoot if he did not hand over his money.
The victim said he refused and grabbed the handgun. A struggle took place, with the robber managing to recover his gun. The unsuccessful robber then fled without obtaining any cash.
The suspect was described as a black man between 24 and 28 years of age with a medium complexion, trimmed mustache and beard, standing between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet in height with a thin build.
