A Dover man has been jailed after he allegedly shot another man Sept. 1 in Rodney Village.
An argument between two men has resulted in one being injured by gunfire and the other jailed on assault charges.
Patterson A. Green, 19, of Dover, was arrested shortly after the incident, said Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Troopers and emergency medical personnel were called to the 1500 block of Joshua Clayton Road, Rodney Village, at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1 after receiving a report about a shooting, Fournier said. Witnesses identified Green as the suspect and he was arrested without incident shortly thereafter while walking through the neighborhood.
The police investigation revealed Green and the 23-year-old victim had been in an argument outside the Alder Park apartment complex earlier that afternoon and had agreed to settle their dispute by fighting each other without weapons, Fournier said.
They left the apartments and were walking down Joshua Clayton Road when Green turned and fired several shots, striking the victim in the leg.
Two bystanders who had been following the men after the argument and who were close to the gunfire were not injured, Fournier said.
The victim was admitted to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening wounds.
Green was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, two counts of reckless endangering and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited.
He has been jailed at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, in default of a $46,500 cash bond.
