The Hartly Volunteer Fire Company received a call late this morning that there was a house fire in the 3,000 block of Bryants Corner Road in Hartly. Before units left the station they were notified that the call had been upgraded. The fire was on going and a victim was reported trapped. Hartly fire fighters arrived at the one story ranch house within moments of the call, according to Hartly Volunteer Fire Company's website.
Once crews gained access to the house they were met by heavy fire in the living room. Crews worked to suppress the fire and ventilate the smoke while performing a search for the victim reported trapped. The victim was found dead in the home, according to Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.
At 11:32 a.m. the situation was considered under control. At 1:36 fire fighters were leaving the scene.
An autopsy will be performed on the victim to confirm the identity. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Chionchio said.
