  • A Dover woman, identified as Dorena F. Coleman, 42, was arrested by the Kent County Governor's Task Force Aug 19 after police say a gun and drugs were found in her vehicle.
The incident occurred at 11:20 p.m. as GTF members were arresting a probation violator at the Kent Budget Motel, 383 North DuPont Highway, said Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. John Day.
While outside the motel GTF members spotted a white Chevrolet Blazer in the parking lot. A trooper recognized the driver, Coleman, from a previous arrest and was aware she likely had active capiases.
As the trooper walked toward Coleman, she spotted him and threw an object toward the center console of her vehicle. When the trooper asked for identification, Day said Coleman was uncooperative and eventually had to be pulled from the vehicle. She was detained for two active capiases.
A search of her vehicle resulted in the recovery of a loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun under a makeup bag on the center console in the area where Coleman had thrown the object. Also recovered was a box of ammunition, 96 bags (1.92 grams) of heroin, 1.3 grams of cocaine, nine strips of Suboxone, and 15 prescription pills.
Coleman was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of a prescription drug without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. She also was arraigned on her two capiases.
She was jailed at the Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, in default of a $50,500 cash bail.
